About Louisa Squires, MFT

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#50756) in the state of California.  I earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in 2005, and am continually updating my education beyond what is required of my license.  My practice integrates into treatment the most recent advances in mind-body science to improve psychotherapy outcomes.  I have advanced training in the treatment of trauma and attachment injury from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute.  This comprehensive and integrative psychotherapy model is designed to treat the effects of single-incident and complex trauma, as well as the legacy of harmful caregiver attachment. In addition to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, I am also trained in and work with the evidence-based approach referred to as Internal Family Systems.  My advanced training also includes other mind-body modalities:

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing);

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy); and

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

I am trained to teach MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction) through Awareness & Relaxation Training and UMass Center for Mindfulness.  I am on the therapist referral lists for UC Santa Cruz and Victim-Witness Program for survivors of violent crime for Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties. I am a Disaster Mental Health volunteer with the American Red Cross, deployed locally and nationallly to respond to the emotional needs of peope affected by disaster.

It is an honor and a privilege to be entrusted to serve my clients on their journey of health and well-being.
